The even mention of arming Gards in response to protesters really ratchets up the situation.

You think a normal government would call for elections instead of deciding not only to circle the wagons, but start arming a normally unarmed police force in efforts to stamp out protests.

    Who is threatening violence here?

It would appear FG/LAB have decided anyone who is not with them is against them and they are willing to have such citizens murdered to push their new taxes through for the EU and bondholders.

How can they say they have a mandate when they are now insinuating the act of shooting Irish citizens?

An innocent abroad posted this late last night. It's worth posting again.

    Seems Reasonable | Broadsheet.ie

Joan Burton was not ‘Trapped’, ‘Under Siege’, ‘Held Against Her Will’ or ‘Kidnapped’. This was an old fashioned, down and dirty, power struggle between politicians fighting over the same territory. The true factual position is that one elected TD blocked a road on another elected TD.

This is no slide into fascism, no rise of a sinister fringe. This is cynical main stream politics hijacking a largely non political, classless popular people’s movement against the daylight robbery of their water.

If Joan wanted out of the situation she put herself in, Gardai would have obliged as they have done on numerous other occasions to enforce the instillation of water meters. The only thing ‘holding’ Joan Burton was her own fear of bad press if the Gardai beat a path through peaceful protesters to facilitate her exit. It is ridiculous to seriously claim that Gardai are incapable of breaking up 100 protesters.

Is that the new HQ script? pay for water to help the third world? your lines are getting more pathetic by the day. You couldn't give a hoop about the third word. The third word is here within our own border and you couldn't see it until it bit you in the face

Your post explains why Ireland's govt has now become a destabilising element in Irish society.

Unable to act fairly or reasonably in relation to taxation matters they now resort to intimidation of all lawful protest.

It is the standard reaction of regimes that despise all human rights.

It is also Mr Enda Kennys personal responsibility and ugly historical legacy

not that I expect an answer to the question, though I might be pleasantly surprised.

I wouldn't put Kenny in charge of the cats' meat, much less a government.

It's obvious to me that the bondholders were looking for the most easily leaned on, co-operative, thumb-in-the-bum-and-mind-in-neutral type to head up their puppet regime.

    The Milk Monitor was ideal.

People can change their minds as Toland would have us believe of labour's volte face on water taxes post election.
