    Immigration /Terrorism

This is an issue the govt has failed to address in any substantive or meaningful way. There are hard questions that must be asked , and must be asked now instead of time when it may be too late to avert disaster.
Bertie's make-up bill and cosmetics shows more imagination and innovation than any pronouncement or govt attempt at specious reasoning in the ambit of immigration.

The question we must now ask as a society is do we want to become a strong unitary melting pot, all citizens in civic republic of shared responsibilities, language , and history. Or the dystopia of a ' multi-cultural' society of ethnic and economic segregation, of many truths, many gods, many Irelands. The choice is one of Britain vs America, segregation ( via govt indolence) or assimilation, failure vs success.
Fear and Death vs Life and Hope.

Agree there are questions to be asked re the effect immigration is going to have on society and politics. Also agree this goverment isn't up to the task of addressing it in a meaningful way.Apart from that the stark, alarmist and limited choices you present don't make a whole lot of sense.Do we have to start with the premise of immigration being a potential problem/ threat ?

This is not to be viewed through the paradigm of immigration is evil , and therefore all immigration should be stopped. It is rather a call to the people of Ireland to take a stand , and say what type of country we would like to live in, in twenty years. Part of which is having a specious, sound and sensible stratagy for dealing with illegals and excess immigrants of suspect character or person ( through racial profiling)

I'm curious as to which of Britain vs America you consider to be 'Fear and Death', and which 'Life and Hope'.
Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

    Conor,

As for America I would hope Life and Hope, I do realize that we as a nation have numerous problems with the current administration BUT the opportunites here are tremendous. We are a very diverse nation that open our ports to the world.

Tell us more about this 'racial profiling'. It sounds intriguing.

Its a police term that identifies criminal suspects who are more proportionate to a certain 'race'.

For instance if the IRA are blowing up bombs in London, they would be looking for Irish suspects in London before..Bulgarian. Irish would fit the racial profile of a potential IRA terrorist.

In europe today it is Muslims.

Before the bombs went off, England allowed a list of extremist muslim clerics and people with terrorist backgrounds to claim asylum. They then went on to spread radical Islamism amonge the muslim communitys.
Even though the majority have no part in it, the english are wondering why these people were let in and I think they are passing laws now to insure it dosn't happen again. I'd say that would require a certain amount of racial profiling to be effective.

More attention should be payed to muslim asylum seekers so as not to let known headbangers within muslim countries get in and set up shop or use Ireland as a base to attack England, but It won't stop Islamism getting into the country if the country was for some reason targeted. Most of the info and propaganda comes from the net. Most of these new al-qaeda bombers in the west are homegrown.
If a young disgruntled muslim gets polically charged and fancys taking part in the jihad, all he has to do is log on to get primed.

The interent is the backbone of al-qaeda logistics and propaganda machine.

In pursuance of alliteration you appear to have used contradictory adjectives to describe the immigration strategy that you desire. Do you really think that Ireland’s immigration strategy should be a specious one?
