We'll see. The comparison will be interesting, as will any details we get to find out on the level of financing provided by the state and the amount of inspection carried out by the state in each case.

This from the USA is just as applicable to the ROI - not just the Judiciary, but right through the various layers of state itself and the laity.

Until recent years, the church also had little to fear from the courts. But that has changed, as predicted in a 1985 confidential report on priest abuse prepared at the urging of some of the nation’s top bishops, Law among them. “Our dependence in the past on Roman Catholic judges and attorneys protecting the Diocese and clerics is GONE,” the report said.

This playground & houses are part of the old Workhouse site that became the #TuamBabies Home. I believe there are more bodies here.

Here's one of the messages left at the #TuamBabies site

Someone has posted the names of the #TuamBabies whose deaths were registered.

The Irish are great at every sentimental action other than an effective one - having vigils, releasing balloons in memory, songs, candlelight marches in memory, teddy bears and minutes silence.

Not a spade in sight or an outraged and forceful gathering. Teddy bears and silent memorialising is more becoming and lss inconvenient and what would the others think?

This kind of sh1t is infantile, there's a mass grave of 800 children below there and people are turning up with teddy bears? FFS.

Facilitated Meeting - Mother and Baby Homes - Cork
    Scheduled for 6th October

Minister Zappone's invitation for expressions of interest
in relation to facilitated discussions for former mother and baby home residents

    Dear Sir/Madam

In June, I invited former residents of Mother and Baby Homes and their supporters to participate in a facilitated consultation process following the publication of the Second Interim Report of the Commission of Investigation.
Over 100 people participated in the initial event reflecting the high level of interest in engaging with this process.

I am pleased to announce that a second Facilitated Meeting will take place in Cork on Friday 6th of October. This event is aimed at those who were unable to attend the initial meeting in Dublin.

The meeting will be focused on gaining an understanding of your views on the report and, specifically, to explore if there are particular supports in the areas of health and well-being that could be of value to those who lived for a time in a Mother and Baby Home or County Home.

I am are pleased to confirm that experienced facilitator, Mr. Jim Halley, will once again help us with this event, so that we can get the best value from the discussions and to make sure that everyone’s voice is heard. Jim is a past Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration and he is an internationally respected mediator and facilitator. The meetings will be held in private and will fully respect the right to confidentiality of all concerned. I attach a copy of the terms of reference that I have given to Jim.

I want to ensure that this initiative does not pre-empt or undermine the work of the Commission, which is due to report in February next. I have in mind a process that will help us identify possible supports for unaccompanied residents, without prejudice to what the final conclusions or recommendations of the Commission might be.

In order that we can plan properly for this second meeting, we are now inviting expressions of interest in attending. I’d be grateful if you could complete the attached short form for this purpose.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    With kind regards.

    Katherine Zappone TD
Minister for Children and Youth Affairs
Expressions of Interest Form (required for attendance) can be accessed here

Report in relation to Tuam site is expected shortly from the Government.

Presently, the Expert Group to include Forensic Archaeologist Niamh McCullough, Dr. James Gallen of DCU (area of interest Transitional Justice) and International expert on TI, Special Rapporteur Pablo de Greiff were tasked to report on way forward directly to Minister Zappone during September.

It is expected Minister Zappone will release the findings/recommendations early in October.

There has been no official announcement as yet.

    - its a Human Right to kill your Child apparently

    - and then cries Crocodile tears over the kids who were in Tuam!

Lots of crocodile tears all round Catalpast, the children of Tuam, up to and including the age of 9 were disregarded in life and disregarded in death. That their mother's carried them for nine months is possibly the only time when they knew being lovingly embraced.
The shame hangs heavily on us that allowed Tuam and associated Institutions run by Religious tasked with their care flourish, while it's most vulnerable perished.
And it still hangs heavily while justice, for the disappeared children and some of their mothers, still missing, remains elusive.
