Already, the ignorance on this thread is stunning. I suppose you opposed the electrification of rural Ireland in the 50's for the same reasons didn't you?

You must be a Fine Fail / Fina Gael ideas department man with an attitude like that. Do we all abandon the house and uproot the schoolkids and move. Where are you standing for election Dublin 2?

So the great idea is that everyone should live in the City?

Mmmmmm and how would the City cope with this?

How is realizing that the city is much better for a business that is highly dependent on Internet, stupid?

    Unreal isn't it?

Broadband provision in this country is another massive failure of the private market. The privatisation of Eircom was a disaster for this country for many reasons - the disasterous 'roll-out' of broadband being top of the list.

So "the city is much better for business that is highly dependent on Internet" is it? I'm genuinely interested in why you think that (because it makes no sense).

Seriously, do you have that attitude to electricity, water, road services etc etc etc to rural communities?

In my local (NBS) area, the primary school has just introduced iPad's for all the children. But there is no broadband in the school, and most of the parents can't access broadband in their homes. Do you really think this is justifiable? Because most people who know what they are talking about probably don't ...

I have been using digi-web for just under 3 years now. It has its limitations but it is all that is on hand where I live.
It costs €40 per month basic with an down load limit. Works ok for places like Pie but naff all else. Run a few you tube videos a week and it runs out off steam very quick.

Like a tourist industry business? No offence but you sound a little bit thick. Broadband is a prerequisite for all modern business no matter where they are located. I was in Fiji lately and they had all their little islands - some up to 75 miles from the mainland - connected with a better service than you'd get in most parts of Ireland.
