    Ban the Burka

    The time has come.
The Burka and all forms of Islamic oppression of women must be outlawed across the EU.
    France has led the way.
It is only a matter of time before a female sucide bomber hits Europa, hiding their wares of destruction from sight, exploiting our tolerance of this form of dress.

Emergency EU wide legislation is required NOW to avert this threat.

I thought France had banned the headscarf (chador?) in schools. Ain't heard jack about the burka being banned there. Has it, and if so, when?

Since the EU doesn't have any competence to tell women how to dress, I don't think it has any capacity to act nevermind "emergency EU wide legislation".

On a less legalistic point, I don't think that burqas are the only way for women to hide explosives on their person. They could just use what male suicide bombers use or wear a dress, or disguise themselves as nuns. I've been told that it's very easy to buy a nun's costume in Dublin these days, despite the fall in vocations. Mind you, the rubber ones might be too tight a fit to squeeze much explosives underneath.

We can get into the whole "burqa = oppression" argument again if you like. I really hope that a supporter of abortion rights trots it out. It happens all the time in France, sometimes the day before the same anti-burqa eejit supports abortion under the heading of a woman's right to choose what to do with her own body. Anyways...

What if muslim women in the west who have the freedom of choice choose to wear it as an expression of faith?

What if i want to wear a crucifix around my neck?

What about jews who like to wear that funny little hat.

What if i'm a kick ass ninja and want to wear my suit in public?

So, which one are you worried about? Oppression of females or the threat of those nasty women hiding bombs under their baggy dresses?

Because, whichever one it is, you just sound silly trying to sound righteous about both of them. If you're outraged about the former, the inclusion of the latter makes it sound as if you don't really care about the plight of the women, and are looking after your own selfish ends. If you're worried by the latter, the inclusion of the former sounds like a fob, a vague gesture in the direction of women, maybe in the hope that your wife will put out if you pretend to support women's lib.

They have banned all ostentatious outward displays of religion. The Burka/Burqa etc come under this remit.

I thought this was ban the parka or ban the burko. The simple solution of course is to ban suicide bombers. (Irony warning for the slow of mind.)

...and none of the other groups mentioned above are suicide bombers [except maybe the Ninjas ]. So no argument there.

Really? Or is that just your discomfort at knowing that I am right?!

a vague gesture in the direction of women, maybe in the hope that your wife will put out if you pretend to support women's lib.
That sounds very autobiographical there Bear.

Interesting observation. I am always amused how the left gets itself in knots about Islam.

    This is a security issue.

However it could be a declaration that this barbaric treatment of women is not tolerated and not welcome in Europe.

I seen this one man band playing on the street years ago, he got so into playing 'God save the Queen' by the sex pistols that he spontaneously combusted.

    Ban the Busker!

(Great finish though, i'll give him that)
