Are there too many Dail Committees

Apparently there will be 23 Dail committes. Each must have a chairperson, vice chairperson and a convenor. I've just heard on RTE that Bertie has appointed the Chairs. Mary O'Rourke got one. I'm sure this must delight young FF TDs. No wonder Jim Glennon resigned. No place for Ned O'Keeffe. I think Bertie doesn't like him.

Nearly all FF TDs will now have extra money in addition to their TD's salary. It seems a bit like the honours system in the UK. Those new jobs should keep the troops from plotting.
By the way, does anyone know what a Convenor does? Does he/she just text the members to tell them that a meeting has been arranged. Money for old rope. We don't need 20 Junior Ministers. (Mary Harney said once we need only about two.) I think she was in Opposition at the time. We are lucky that deValera put into the Constitution that the Cabinet should have just 15 members.

If the committees accepted amendments to legislation they would have a point. As they don't, they don't.

That's just the Govt positions, right?

What about PAC, and the other positions taken up by opposition members. Has it been released anywhere on the Oireachtas website yet?

Interesting choice for the British Irish Inter Parliamentary committee.

    British Irish Inter Parliamentary
    Niall Blaney - Chair
    Sean O'Fearghaill - Vice Chair
We know Deputy Blaney's background, and there's a story in Kildare Town that Sean O'Fearghail's response to the Anglo-Irish agreement was to go around the town saying there'd be no RUC on the streets of Kildare.

    Still times change......

Any idea how much extra a committee chairperson/vice chairperson gets on top of their TD's salary?
