What does everybody make of the Frank Connolly story in today's Mail that Dunphy says Owen O'Callaghan says that BA was bought but would not deliver?
Is the story stacking up or is it just the Mail?

But it's clear O'Callaghan has being going to a lot of effort to delay Ahern appearing at the tribunal.
Why would he bother, if Ahern hadn't *delivered*? Why would he help someone, who had not lived up to his side of the deal?
I mean there might be some other reason. I'm not saying its impossible. But it seems strange.

I first read the details of Dunphy's statement in The Star on Thursday and to be honest, would tend to believe that version rather than the Mail's.
The Mail have a habit of 'over egging the pudding' when it comes to any story. Plenty of quotes from 'sources' - I guess these sources exist only in the minds of the poor hacks who work there.
I always take anything I read in the Mail with a pinch of salt.
Although, to be fair to Columbia Connolly, he has proven his worth as a journalist. But he is prone to exaggeration. Once you bear that in mind when reading his stuff, you will be ok!!
Dunphy was involved with Owen O'Callaghan in a stadium project at the time to bring Wimbledon to Dublin.
Not only did BA have a meeting in Los Angeles in March 1994 about the project, BA also met Owen O'Callaghan and Bill O'Connorfrom L.A. on November 10 1994, just over 3 weeks befoe the infamous lodgement.
Maybe Bill O'Connor brought over a briefcase with say US$ 50,000, kept US$ 5,000 for buying drinks and left the briefcase behind.
Anyway Dunphy has reportedly told tribunal lawyers that O O'C says the BA was bought but was unreliable and often failed to deliver.
According to the story OO'C told Dunphy that he had to pay money to politicians to get his projects off the ground.
Much is made in the story of Albert Reynolds having to force BA to sign the tax designation for Golden Island in Athlone before the government went out of office.

Was reading hotpress in the hairdresser the other day (thanks for noticing by the way) and it had one resurrected interview from Bertie in 1992. When asked what was he favourite album, he replied money money money by abba. Ah the things that come back to haunt us.

This is a very interesting turn of events if true (the US meeting, not ABBA).

Or maybe we should just make stuff up and throw it out there. Supporting evidence??, who needs it.Originally Posted by droghedasouth
Just a thought (for which there is lots of evidence)…if Dunphy was told this by O’Callaghan in ‘94 why was he so supportive of FF & Ahern in the run up to the ‘97 election? or has he only remembered this since he decided to change his political allegiance (yet again) to someone else.
