McDowell gives CIA powers over Irish Citizens

US INVESTIGATORS, including CIA agents, will be allowed interrogate Irish citizens on Irish soil in total secrecy, under an agreement signed between Ireland and the US last week.

Suspects will also have to give testimony and allow property to be searched and seized even if what the suspect is accused of is not a crime in Ireland.

Mc Dowell has just been on Radio saying that the entire story is concocted and untrue. Looks like he's going full steam ahead to get the Examiner to withdraw it in its entirety.

He's quoted in the article. Is he saying the reporter made the whole thing up, or is he disputing only parts of it?

If any of that is true, it's bloody frightening.

    IHRC to investigate

Correct me if I'm wrong, but would McDowell not need the Dail's backing or at least the government's to make such an agreenment. Would a law not have to be passed to allow this to happen.

I understood him to be disputing the whole lot, and he had a shot at the Irish Times as well!

Seems to me that somebody in all of this has never read (or understood) our Constitution.

    Could it be...
    a) Micheal McDowell, SC - former Attorney General - veteran of many constitutional court cases both in government and private practice
    b) some hack at the Examiner

What the Examiner describes would be totally unconstitutional and McDowell would have to be on pills to even think he'd get away with it. The idea that the Irish government could just transfer a prisoner to the US - and keep it secret - is, to be polite, mental.

But we're in a war on terrorism. There was another attack on London today. We could be next, etc., etc.
