Not sure about Creighton or Varadkar. Throwing them in at the deep end may do them no favours. Also, they're fairly untested, so it could be counter-productive for FG. Give them a couple of years. Perhaps some of the elder statesmen like O'Keeffe and Allen could be retained for a couple of years for them to move into when they're ready.

I would be seriously surprised if Shatter wasn't recalled.

Completely agree with Locke. Blood them first and see what quality they have. It didn't do Enright any favours last time out...

Creighton is a complete no hoper - just like Enright - ticks all the boxes but leaving you feeling slighty ill afterwards. She won't amount to anything much.

Just a quick question for the blueshirts, what makes you all think that Lucinda is suitable for front bench action already? I've seen very little from her yet to suggest that the constituents of DSE were right to out Mick McD and bring Lucy in. She seems to be the ideal poster-girl for FG, young, moderately attractive (in some people's eyes, don't see it myself) and one who's not afraid of a publicity stunt (remember the lampost climbing competion in Ranelagh?) so she may come across well to some but in the overall scheme, I cannot see why she is so deserving of the much spoken about front bench position.

Given the effort FG put in to winning back the seat in DSE - not cos it got rid of McD but because it was Garret FitzGeralds old seat - Creighton was lucky to be the candidate - same as it's unlikely Brian Hayes would be where he is if it were not for the bizarre amount of support he got from Bruton. If left to their own merits I doubt either of them would have got nearly as far.

I'd agree with you completely, FG put an awful lot of work into gaining that seat, but, with a candidate who appears to be as weak as Lucinda does, I just cannot get my head around it. Pre-election she feck all except climb a lampost (and brand Fiona O'Malley a racist.... ) and has done even less post-election but I suppose thats Irish politics for ya!

    fg f. bench

    Well,
every body is critical of Labour with the average age of their Deputies nearly 60. FG and Kenny have to present a young vibrant alternative to FF and show Hunger for power and Government.
Last time out it was Kenny, Brutun and O'Dowd...and the rest were all asleep except for Ring who wasn't even on the frontbench.
So bring them on and I agree with the previous writer on Olwyn she needs to be changed on to another brief.

Clearly a_man_about_a_dog and the Earl of Desmond have had very little dealings with Lucinda. It was absolutely no accident that Lucinda was nominated to contest DSE and that she won the seat. She worked incredibly hard to win the seat both before and after the selection convention. She had a very large team which was made up of long time DSE party members and many people she brought in herself.

For people who have seen her speak publically or appear on the TV or radio she is very articulate, and she is a very principled lady.

Hopefully both herself and Leo Varadkar will get the front bench spots. Luckily Enda has a very strong pool of people to draw on.

It seems that Ms Enright and her hubby , gormless Joe , demanded front bench positions as promised by Kenny. They were told to go home and get a life as they are yesterdays news.
