Death Threats made to Shell contractors

Formal complaints are being investigated by Gardai in Mayo, after a number of men (all contractors, or workers for Shell in some capacity) have received death threats in the name of the IRA.

Two men were approached outside a Bellmullet pub and told they would be "shot in the back of the head". Others have received phonecalls in the middle of the night invoking the name of the IRA, and have gotten "drive by" threats at their homes.

Shell have advised that any workers who have been intimidated should go directly to the Gardai.
"The IRA Army Council have a history of telling the truth. If they say they didn't do it, then I believe them" - Bertie Ahern, speaking after the murder of Det. Garda Jerry McCabe

This interesting 'scoop' about death threats is from todays Sindo.

The Sindo also offered these little gems today:

    • "The way the republican virus affects the brain, it magnifies feelings of self-pity and bloodymindedness out of all proportion"

"The vague line we've seen peddled in the last week by the likes of Martin Ferret and the other SF weasels..."

"Sinn Fein did everything they could to disrupt the lawful Unionist parade which passed by the republican enclave of Ardoyne last Tuesday."

"When you hear Ardoyne fishwives on the radio..."

"Anne Cadwallader, was permitted by Wicklow's East Coast radio to engage in a right old anti-Unionist whingeathon with the normally objective Fr Aiden Troy"

"...we are justified in trying to quarantine their culture of poison."

"Be warned. Have your bull************************ detector to hand when the IRA statement appears."
    [/list]

Of course the Sindo has completely ignored the core issue of the Irish government handing over, free gratis, Ireland's valuable natural resources.

    Why would they do that??

Maybe this item of news from the London Stock Exchange offers some insight:

The Board of Providence Resources P.l.c., the oil and gas exploration and production company, is pleased to announce that Tony O'Reilly Jnr has been appointed Chief Executive with effect from September 1st......Tony has over 15 years experience in the oil and gas sector through ARCON as an executive and as a non-executive director of Providence and we are very pleased that he is to manage and develop the business at this important stage in the company's history.

It is disgusting that "Sir" Anthony O'Reilly has so much power to set the political agenda, to distort the news, to misinform the people of this country.....all while remaining a tax exile himself and making no personal contribution to the state!!!

    Barry,
As Ireland said, anyone can claim to be an IRA man threatening you. Do you honestly think the 'real' (in this case I mean real as in actual, and refer to the Provos) IRA would be that stupid?

    Mellows,
Spare a thought for people Like Cain, who 'have to' buy that drivel every week. Then again it can be funny to look at every now and again to see how ridiculously anti-republican they are being.

    Indeed.

A good friend of mine was threatened by "the IRA" once as well. A few words were exchanged and the man quickly walked off 8)

Pathetic news story from the Sindo. How can anyone take this seriously?

What are 'drive by threats'? Am I the only one who is now thinking of Family Guy?

Why do you say that? The story is factual in nature, based on complaints made to the Gardai. There are no statements of opinion in it at all.
