Two lose FG whip for breaking ranks

Fine Gael has removed the party whip from the mayor of Limerick city, Diarmuid Scully, and Dublin City Council member Niamh Cosgrave, following their decisions to break party ranks in recent local authority mayoralty elections.

    Not exactly surprised, about Cosgrave.

But the Mayor of Limerick is, would have taught they'd conveniently forget about his opportunism, seen that he won and is now Lord Mayor. They must be worried now that he will run in the GE!

I don't know the story with Cosgrave, but to a neutral observer, it looks like Scully was screwed. I hope he has a very succesful career as an independent.

The report does mention for how long though.

There is a strong possiblity of Cllr Cosgrave not returning to FG of her own choice. It would appear she is very disillusioned with FG and politics in general and with the likely selection of two people outside the Cosgrave clan to contest DNE, and especially when she would not even be allowed be present at the convention.
Perhaps, the PDs will sneak in there and nab another cllr!

They've not been kicked out of the party, AFAIK, just had the whip removed.

    There's a world of difference.

Well well well.......the wheel hath come full circle.

She must be the only member of Fine Gael not in the absolute best of spirits at the moment.
Cummuppence at last for the family that single-handedly destroyed FG in DNE. Were it not for Tony Sutton, the hard work of Joan Maher and the direct intervention of Kenny (ie. poaching Brody Sweeney) fine gael would be finished down there.

    Good riddance to her.
Isn't it interesting to contrast Cosgrave's behaviour with that of Lucinda Creighton - who was far more wronged than Cosgrave....and yet acted with dignity

I wont be sorry to see her go either. Was she recently before a tribunal with her Father? I was talking about it last night with a fellow blue and we were'nt sure of the facts.

Lucinda's letter in the Phoenix was rather good I thought.
