Does the Catholic Church Regard Tax Evasion As Immoral?

    Remember this story?

"School Manager Refused To Enrol Pregnant Teenager"

Manager: School not a haven for pregnant people or mothers | Irish Examiner

    Remember the principal's words?

".."I will not and do not accept single mothers in this school."

    and

".."Do not try to blame this school for having a moral code. You have no business coming down here to single us out — we are a Catholic school and shall remain so."

Now how does a man of such high moral standards reconcile this attitude with his failure to pay his lawful taxes?

Revenue yields €114.62 million in settlements

".Former school principal and founder of St Joseph’s College in Borrisoleigh, Pádraig O’Shea paid €346,000 in taxes, as well as €359,000 in penalties and interest.."

    Revenue yields

Or is sex still the only sin in the catholic shurch?

I'm sure their 'loose cannon' law can both paise and demonise tax evasion at the same time!

    It would appear so.

Moral outrage at anything sexual (outside of marriage). We are a ridiculously fupped up country when it comes to the moral compass.

Sher, getting one over on the tax man is something to be proud of.

Fr Martin Boyle, a psychotherapist working in Tallaght, also paid a €73,000 settlement to Revenue following the under-declaration of income tax. It followed a revenue investigation.
You forgot that oen a little further down in the piece. How can the Revenue actually collect their blood money?

The last line belies the real motivation of this thread.

Other than being a Catholic, Padraig O'Shea has no role with the Catholic church.

This has nothing to do with the Catholic church.

    Nice catch Uriah!

I'm sure a good Catholic like himself will have no trouble whatsoever reconciling his actions to his high moral standards...I'm sure he'll still claim the moral high ground over the lot of us, especially young wans who dropped their knickers!

As a school principal, he invoked the 'catholic ethos' of the school to refuse entry to a pregnant teenager
    - the school, because of its 'Catholic ethos' did not accept 'such girls'.

The Catholic Church tries to distance itself from the actions of members who claim to be upholding its ethos.

The muslim extremists who killed the Libyan ambassador and three others claim to represent the Islamic ethos.

Do you indict the Islamic faith based on their actions?

I don't know enough about the Islamic Faith to comment.

I know enough about the Roman Catholic Church to indict it for appalling itreatment meted out to vulnerable people by people acting on its behalf.
