IALPA claims Ryanair intimidation of Pilots

The president of the Irish Air Line Pilots' Association (IALPA), Evan Cullen, said today that Ryanair pilots were told by the airline that they would be transferred to Lubeck in Northern Germany if they did not withdraw complaints of victimisation against the airline.

Cullen said he was concerned that pilots were being subjected to harassment and intimidation and denied Ryanair claims that the union had put pressure on pilots to join IALPA.
Ryanair is also allegedly demanding that pilots sign a bond making them responsible for the E15,000 cost of retraining, which would become payable if Ryanair is forced to negotiate with unions within the next five years.

Michael O'Leary / Ryanair's disgraceful customer service levels are only matched by their despicable industrial relations policies.

To think that in 2005, Michael O'Leary & Ryanair can trample all over the rights of the hard working Ryanair Pilots is a national disgrace.

It’s high time the Government stood up to Ryanair and their bullyboy boss Michael O’Leary by strengthening industrial relations laws to ensure all employees can be represented by a Union should they so chose.

They'll have a fun time insisting on compulsory union recognition when Ryanair ups sticks (and corporate tax base) to Stanstead.

By the way, TKWhiskers, doesn't calling for tougher laws (in the third paragraph) kind of contradict the claim that Ryanair are "trampling over" pilots' rights (in the second paragraph)? In other words, until the law changes, they don't have any right to union recognition.

Any company operating in the Rebublic is subject to our laws. In any case I'd be happy to see the back of Ryanair and Michael O'Leary.

The question of Union recognition is before the courts at the moment, notwitstanding this, the Government needs to firm up the law in this area.
