He was a truely inspiring individual who spoke movingly about his illness in this interview last year.

I hope this man gets the recognition he deserves for the work he has done.

Speaking up for "mad" people is not popular, sexy, or hip. Most people pretend they don't hear.

As someone who has a brother in the mental health system, I'm sad to hear of his passing. May he Rest in Peace.

Very sad news about a great man.

Very sad to hear this, heard him several times on the radio, he really gave you an insight into mental illness. I recall a long interview he did on Newstalk, some time back and it really helped me appreciate more and understand somewhat this terrible illness that effects so many in this country.

A courageous and remarkable man, may he not be forgotten.

Terrible sad news, I am so very saddened to hear this, my condolences go out to his wife and family. He was a wonderful person, so full of courage and hope, always willing to help the next person. He will be very sadly missed.

Along with Mary Raftery we have lost two brave and independent minds today. RIP. The fact that Bertie and Harney are still creeping around somewhere may well lead on e to question the existence of God.
