A good judge of character Joyce must have been!

Small step though but a step all the same.

Glad to hear it, subversives who hate Ireland should be kept tabs on. I'd be annoyed if the cops weren't there.

Yes, yes, yes, republican commemorations just ain't what they used to be. I expected at least a bomb or two. But then again you'd need to be a really sick b*stard to plant a bomb in the middle of a crowd of unarmed civilians honouring their dead on a quiet Sunday, wouldn't you?

Could only watch about 30 seconds of each clip above, reminded me of the " We're for Roy " marches around Cork during the Saipan episode, except a bit more orderly !

Yes, I was there and had a very pleasant day out. However, was a bit disappointed that the event passed without violence. Expected at the very least some fisticuffs.
    Yet another telling contribution, not.

Were you not off running up and down Sandymount with David and all the Bloomsgang?
I'll have you know, Bikmac, that James Joyce was a member of the Irish Republican Socialist Party and, briefly, took Irish language lessons from Padraig Pearse. However, he ended up disliking both Pearse as a man and his teaching methods.[/quote:txd5xhde]

I think you mean the Irish Socialist Republican Party.

Is there any evidence Joyce was actually a member of the ISRP? Someone attends a socialist meeting in Dubliners but I wasn't aware of any real connection between the ISRP, which would've been entirely working class, and James Joyce.

If memory serves me Richard Ellman refers to this in his biography.
