This thread continues to slowly beggar belief. A lick of whitewash????
Maybe a lick of whitewash would improve his unfinished hotel in Keel too? Maybe his debts could be whitewashed? And planning law?
So, the devil-may-care ego-maniac who erects bland, illegal folly on preserved commonage land instead of servicing significant debts = The people's champion! Lovable rogue! Sticking it the man!
Advocates of abiding by the law, and general common sense = Begrudger scum! Establishment Ireland! Philistines!
As said before - if this thing doesn't get dismantled ASAP, and if McNamara isn't dealt with harshly by the courts, the precedent it sets is massive. It's basically a free-for-all. Sure let's build a crude replica of the Colossus of Rhodes on top of a crude replica of an Egyptian pyramid in the middle of the Burren, a 6-storey underground carpark, a galvanised lean-to on the side, and a two-story wooden toilet block without doors on the back.
It's a similar "sure fair play to him" attitude to the one seen in the welfare fraud thread. For some inexplicable reason, Irish people who cheat, steal, take shortcuts, shirk responsibility and display nothing but pure mé-feinery are treated with affection, even pride (!), and given a wink and a smile. It's truly bizarre, given that generally such types are basically shafting you, either directly or indirectly as a neighbour/taxpayer/law-abider/etc. People can rant on with the usual 'but the BANKERS!!!" invective, but as I see it, the attitude that facilitated the grand economic mess is the exact same as the one I'm talking about here.
Now I need a lie down![]()
Achill Henge the Tomb Monument to the Celtic tiger is to be demolished!
