The fact that a person or institution could act to deny me the right to visit my partner in such circumstances is a denial of a fundamental right.

This is a complex subject, and I don't want to get bogged down in detail. There are many other areas where we, as a same sex couple, do not, and most importantly cannot, have rights enjoyed by hetrosexual couples. The issue is not the absence of "discrimination between same and opposite sex NON MARRIED couples", rather it is the fact that a hetrosexual non married couple have a means to attain certain rights (i.e. by marrying), while same sex couples have no means to attain such rights.
