Do the Irish Public care about payments or corruption

Do the Irish public gave a damn about political payments or corruption in general??. It seems not with the 3 in a row of FF; so why are the media sounding off as if we're all keenly interested. Nobody gives a toss about Ahern's financial affairs. He tripled the quota needed, these stories from Dublin castle seem so irrelevant in the public mind. Should we listen anymore to journalists raving on about who got what?

Personally I don't anymore. The important thing is that politicians are now far more accountable and the system is cleaner. Once CJH went to his grave without serving a prison sentence the rest is just chicken feed. I'd close the tribunals now.

One of the things that is missing in most people is an ability to see the bigger picture . Certain types of corruption people would be horrified by it`s just that the stuff that is two or three steps removed from very negative consequences doesn`t concern them because they don`t think about how close those two or three steps really are. Possibly because a huge chunk of our population identify the state as a kind of piggy-bank to provide money for them. The nature of the tribunals has meant as well that years has been spent waiting for stuff that was pretty anti-climactic hasn`t helped either.

Absolutely not. As a population we love hearing about it, but we do not give a damn.

Yeah I once got a brown envelope with a wad a cash. I was eleven at the time, and my brother was helping me beat my cousin at Monopoly. (Oh the shame)

After this election result I am now convinced that every electorate has a certain tolerance of political-financial indiscretions (e.g. Scandanavia - zero; Africa - resignedly high). The Irish tolerance level is based on the culture of the nixer - making enough cash on the side not to be noticed by revenue in relation to your overall income is grand, whatever you're having yourself.
