Berties alleged dollars ... were they declared ?

I do remeber whilst living in the US that there was a requirement for any individual leaving the US with more that $10,000 in Cash or other negiotable instruments to declare it on departure by completing a customs form.

I believe that there were substantial penalties for non compliance.

If that was the case, surely there must be a paper trail .

    So Ahern seems to have

    - lied either to the tribunal or to the public on the 'tears for Bertie' Brian Dobson interview, or to the tribunal
    - broke currency rules regarding the transfer of cash
    - had a source of income that he seems not to have declared, as he was required to do, under ethics legislation.
    - behaved very oddly over the funding of his house
    - paid nearly €200,000 to his ex-girlfriend after he broke up with her. (Why on earth is he paying her off?)

Something seriously stinks. Ahern looks more and more like a politically dead man walking.

Those accusing Bertie of 'lies' would do well to remember our libel laws.

    - won the election
-maintained broad public support in spite of all of this
    - have been denied the due process that he was entitled to
    - been given multiple opportunities, should any class of trial ever ensue, to claim that the case has already been prejudiced.

Most of the country voted for parties other than his, and he's currently not exactly having a walk in the park trying to get re-elected Taoiseach as a result.

So he didn't win the election then? Interesting.
