The reason why health is a mess under FF

The report out today ( http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/0601/health.html ) specifies that hospitals need 2,500 extra beds. Remember how FG were laughed at by FF in the election campaign for planning for 2,300. It's obvious FF don't have a clue what's going on. Well I guess you get what you vote for - I hope the Irish public are ready for another few years of chaos (considering Kenny doesn't pull off something spectacular in the next few days)

Many people believe Harney ( Pd's not FF ) is actually one of the only health ministers who is seriously trying to tackle the hospital issues, whilst many many previous health ministers simply swept it under the rug, passing the burden to the next health minister
Food tastes better when you put it all together! It's the one best mayonnaise!

There never was a dispute over whether we need more beds or not, the dispute is about what’s the best, most efficient way to provide them and in FG’s case how to pay for them.

With respect, Mary Harney is trying to turn the giving of healthcare into a for-profit business opportunity for her wealthy supporters.

There are hundreds of beds around the country which are not being used because she won't sanction the hiring of new doctors and nurses. There are operating theatres lying idle because she won't sanction the hiring of support staff.

The hospital "issues" are under investment and the headcount cap imposed by the Department of Finance.

Everything else is a smokescreen to distract attention.

Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain.” Napoléon Bonaparte

People who drool over Mary Harney like she is somehow the only politician capable of handling the health portfolio confuse me.

She has been in Health since 2004, last year she described the health crisis as a National Emergency. Now we are told that there are at least seven A&E units, including the Mercy Hospital in Cork and Beaumont and the Mater in Dublin, that are not even fit for practice.

    What's going on?
