    Irish Army on YouTube

By now, most people would have seen this footage or read about the "joke" incident involving members of our peacekeeping army in Liberia. If not, the general incident involved two lads pointing their weapons at civilians who are honkered down taking cover, whilst the lads smile on, anyway apparently it was a big joke

Does anyone have any opinions on this incident, do you think our peace keepers have engaged in this behaviour before?
How much does the public get to know as soldiers are brought before military court not a public court.
Should we give such praise to our army and rangers, when many people who live around the curragh area are scared to walk the streets at night, and gangs control the area who according to many people i have talked, from the area, are in the army, esp rangers.

Should there be a full investigation into army behaviour and the conditions of our barracks and surrounding areas?

Military Police are investigating this and I hope those responsible are brought to justice.
Apart from the gross nature of what they did, it is a secular sin to bring the Irish Army into disrepute..

Yeah, I suppose so. But some of those guys are cracking out there and I suppose in the cold light of day they must regret it.

It has been done before though - no army is perfect.

Just to be clear, incidents are bound to happen in any organisation especially in an armed organisation, and the percentage of people involved is bound to be low, whilst the majority act in the proper way, does this type of incident still call for a public enquiry into the state of affairs within the Irish army for the protection of army employees and the public

    Absolutely disgraceful. Unbelieveable.

If found guilty (due process etc), they should be drummed out .... .... ...

I think there is a perception that because these guys are international peacekeepers, they are inherently honourable, or good men.

Of course that isn't the case. While I have no doubt that even the guys who feature in this clip are good at their respective roles, many of them just happened to be sent to Liberia to do this work as opposed to partaking in work where their very involvement is evidence of honour.

So we shouldn't be surprised that some of them act the fool now and again, though of course actions like this are ideally to be discouraged and punished.

They'll never match the appalling behaviour of the Canadians in Somalia. Commanded by? Yes! You've guessed correctly! Le Général Jean de Chastelain.
