Common Purpose - who are they?

This is not, repeat not, a trolling exercise but a genuine enquiry. has anybody ever heard of a group called "Common Purpose" ?

They have a chapter in Ireland - Common Purpose | Common Purpose Ireland

Looking at this website, it is hard to tell if they are an educational group or a masonic outfit. I am sure they are entirely innocuous but I never heard about them until I came across a rant about their links in the UK on another discussion forum.

    Anyone know more?

One of Ireland's top quangohoppers John Fitzgerald is a former Trustee. Common Purpose are causing a bit of concern in the UK I believe as they appear to be something of a personality cult around this American woman Julia Middleton.

Ostensibly a HR training company with fluffy brochures that appeal to HR directors in the civil service and in the semi-state sectors in the US they do a lot of 'empowerment' training with a distinctly feminist bent and in the UK and Ireland the focus seems to be less on that and more on promising bored middle level administrators networking opportunities and something called 'leadership beyond authority'. That last should ring alarm bells in any public sector nest as public servants and quangocrats have their duties prescribed by statute and contract and shouldn't under any circumstances be paying large sums of public money to learn how to exceed their authority.

There is some concern about the level of influence this Middleton woman has with Francis Maude in particular and I have a feeling that there is concern enough for them to be on the radar as potential security risks.

The Middleton woman popped up out of nowhere some years ago claiming to have had some kind of empowerment-related epiphany and started Common Purpose the very next morning if you are to believe her. She claims to have been some kind of army or corporate international brat but there's very little available on her and to me what I could see is less than reassuring. Essentially no-one really knows who she is or at least there is very little around about her early existence which tends to make me a bit suspicious of who she is. Common Purpose is also registered to her as a business. They are worth watching for two reasons- they seem particularly adept at appealing to bored middle level bureaucrats and also very good at charging thousands for corporate awaydays which effectively means the taxpayer is paying them while they recruit for their own network.

I'd have them and their circle on a watchlist if it were down to me.

Ah here. Rotary Clubs and The Lions Club are not dodgy or secretive at all.
