What are you basing that on? Is it the title "irish politics forum", by any chance?

It is in Ireland's economic interests that Britain stays in the EU. 21% of our exports still go to them.

should'nt make any difference at all unless the brits decide to impose tariffs and thats not likely or if the currancies go haywire and again that has'nt yet happened.

The only currancy to go a bit mad is the dollar and there is nothing the ECB or The Bank of England can do about that.

Foreign investment has been heavy in Ireland in the last decade due in no small part to the fact that
    1. we're in the EU
    2. we're in the Eurozone
    3. well educated
    4. we speak english.

The western and southern hemispheres like us. We give the finger to all that class stuff they have in the UK. We're more like the americans when it comes to business savvy.

Alot of British MEP's are Eurosceptics and as such that's not a good thing to further the progress of European integration (not that the parliament has much power but still you like to know your MP's support the institution they are in). The anti-European parties did well in the elections i.e. UKIP and the Conservatives and the commie wing of Labour is anti-EU e.g. Tony Benn and Robert Kilroy Silk was a member of Labour and he is definatly anti-Europe as was seen by his brief flirtation with UKIP. British celebrities like Joan Collins and Ian Heslop (Have I got news for You) are keen Eurosceptics.

It seems to be fashionable to be euroskeptic in the UK.

by and large, I'd rather have them inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in.

The forum is for the politics in Ireland - not the 26-Counties.

What about that damned "Northern Ireland"(sic) board?

And the 26 County constitution on the homepage?

I hardly think Joan Collins can be described as a 'keen' Eurosceptic. She was wheeled out by UKIP for last year's elections, but was unable to answer the simplest questions from the press about that party's policies.

Also, it's probably pushing it to describe her as a 'celebrity'. Dried-up old lotus eater might be more apt.

Yes, Risteard seems to have abandoned this discussion, much as he abandons every discussion where he doesn't have an article from Saoirse that he can copy and paste.

I'm not saying all our problems are solved but it might mean our diplomats and politicians would have a greater degree of access to important discussions and policy making deals.
Greater access might mean a greater chance to influence events.

    It's just a theory anyway.
    Interesting theory hiker.....

So you think that if Britain left the EU, the likes of Sean O' Neachtain would come to the forefront as an international diplomat? Or Marian Harkin ? or even Gay Mitchell (God save us, did you hear the fool on Morning Ireland this morning attacking the UKIP rep)

If i thought that this theory had even a smidgen of realism hiker (which I don't, in fact its probably the silliest thing I've ever heard about the EU, straight bananas and all), I would go against every fibre in my body, and beg the Brits to stay in. Really, I would.

Help us and save us.. Sean O' Neachtain - Yes Mr. Bush, sure we can agree to divide them tariffs on agricultural studies, if you agree to build one of them air base things in Strokestown (pardon the pun) - and all the while Gay rants in the corner Republicans, republicans ? I'm dealing with no republicans, get that dirty dirty Bush away from me, the dirty dirty Waaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!! Christian Democrats, Christian Democrats !!!! Republicans !!!! they're everywhere, they're out to get me, subvert the state Waaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Criticise me if you will. Criticise what I post if you will but when you criticise Joan Collins you go too far sir. She is old and decrepit and just wont die gracefully. But that doesn’t not mean we criticise we should be in awe that so much plastic has failed to make such an old woman look like a shopping bag (you remember plastic shopping bags we used get them for free with our messages). And her books have ensured that old woen who sit next to me on planes will be more concerened with Hollywood wives then what I'm doing reading Juno and the Paycock and asking if she can act parts of it out with me!

With the collapse of the negotiations on the budget etc and the presidency falling to Britain next month, some intricate diplomacy will be required.

Blair needs a friend in Europe and I reckon Bertie and Brian Cowan will be heavily involved behind closed doors.

The Brits know we can deliver European deals.

The Germans and the French know we are not lackeys to the Brits.

We are the perfect deal makers.
