    Tribunal Leaks

It is quite clear that the Mahon Tribunal has a mole who is leaking goodo to the media. The dogs in the street seem to know the name of this individual and yet he has not yet been named in the media.

However, to my mind this individual is central to the entire Bertiegate saga.

    There are two pertinent questions:

    1. Why has the Tribunal chairman, Judge Alan Mahon, not made any visible attempt to apprehend, reprimand and silence this individual?

    2. What motivates this individual? Does he bear a personal grudge against the Taoiseach or is he acting on behalf of some other party/parties? If the latter, then who? Brian Cowen at his press conference yesterday seemed pretty certain that this individual is a Fine Gael agent, but is this actually the case?

    You're way off.

Everybody knows that Bertie benefits when the media pry into his private life, so no one who is anti-FF would have any motivation to leak this information prior to an election.

The leaks are coming directly from FF to turn the election into a Referendum about Bertie. Don't be fooled.

I would agree that this election has become a referendum about Bertie - who is still the most popular party leader in the country by the way. Everything else has become a side issue or side issues

    I smell a rat!

The journos, the politicos, the tribunal chairman, everyone, it would seem, apart from the greater Irish public know the identity of this mole: surely the matter would be resolved one way or the other if their identity was revealed as we would then be in a position to judge what their motivation was.

Your inferance is that the Irish Times have implicated the Tribunals to cover up for Fianna Fail - unlikly. However their failure to reveal the source of the leak is deplorable and damaging to the Tribunals.

It would be two faced in the extreme for the media to hound Berite out of office and leave the question of a mole in the Tribunal unresolved. When it is not known whether or not financial leverage (ie a bribe) was used to procure the leak information - the issue of corruption in representation of the Public interest remains very much alive.

Though I believe ernestly that Bertie must go as he has lost public confidence, I am not willing to defer to the Irish Times as representing my interests in this matter, above the appointed Tribunal. To do so would leave open questions of political motivations or corruption at the heart of the Judiciary or accept that the media can make a finding of guilt against a private citizen of this state instead of the courts, both of which are unacceptable.

Wasn't it reported some time ago that a high ranking member of Fianna Fail spotted a prominent tribunal lawyer dropping a large envelope through Geraldine Kennedy's letter box?

Why, why, why won't Fianna Fail name this individual?

    Because he/she doesn't exist.

FF are pulling all the strings here. Noel Ahern has claimed there is a dirty tricks campaign, but doesn't have any evidence.

The only party who can benefit from the leaks are FF!!!

The high ranking member of Fianna Fail was lying! This is something Fianna Fail do very well. You need to pay more attention!

Do you honestly believe that by 'leaking' this information, FF will benefit? How can making their leader look like he may have been involved in some strange transactions benefit the party?
