He's lucky then that he in a job where air fein is rewarded so well for not doing the job he was appointed to do - namely look after the public interest in Anglo.
Anglo is in his opinion, not being run in the best interests of the public - so a resignation is the only option to protect his credibility.
FF/Greens were the worst thing to happen to Ireland. Until FLabourG that is...

How many people would have told you that I wonder?

Brian Lenihan "seems" assured and sage but he is the most clueless and destructive man in our nations history.
Brian Cowen "seems" to be a village idiot yet he is an taoiseach
Bertie Ahern "seems" like a ordinary, decent bloke but he is the father of all our woe.

Alan Dukes "seems" to be frank but his actions suggest otherwise.

Judge people on what they so not how they come across and we'll all be a lot better off.

I dont agree with you, I have no confidence in the two Brians. You can only go on your gut, and mine says Dukes is basically for real about trying to do the right thing for us in Anglo. He has virtually no chance, but that is another thread.

No that is absolutely this thread - if you are appointed as the Public Interest Director and find yourself with "virtually no chance" then it is your obligation to resign and highlight the lack of support given to you by the government and they're apparent rough riding over the public interest.

If he's not having any affect then he his wasting tax payers money and adding creedence to an anglo approach which is by his reckoning not in the public interest.

He might yet, who knows. I am glad someone is in the post that is willing to go on Vincent Browne etc and talk relatively openly. He is retired, nobody has anything on him. He is not waiting for a promotion or a seat from the government. He is exactly what I like to see there. He will do and say whatever he wants to do and say. That is better than 99% of the people that could be in that post.

so his job is to give a sheen of public interest to anglo rather then any actual public interest
What does the Irish President spend their time doing. Work in progress

But doesn't he have an incentive to stay because going would loose him €150,000 pa (another poster said salary is €250,000pa but he takes less as he has 2 pensions).

€150,000 pa would incentivise many even if they already have 2 good pensions...

Which is why he should be recallable like all public representatives. And certainly not on such a ridiculous salary. A credit union member would've done a better job.

Anglos books should be completely open to the public and accessible online. The fiduciary self-interest of a public institution should be suspended.
No such director should get more than the average industrial wage.

Although the latter wage level is probably too generous seeing how cosy and empowering this part-time number actually is.

Oh and having the books open is not all that radical. They were open in utilities in the US prior to deregulation and Enron etc...
