Poles can't vote in general elections here, so you are right to disregard their opinions.

Liz is a lovely person, in real life, I mean, not the political showtime display by a lot of TDs. I remember having a big run-in with a certain TD with clout, a Labour TD and she came out boxing for me, big time. A real gem. Her and Kathleen Lynch are two of the fiestiest women I know, totally different from each other but brave as anything. She is a very good writer as well.

Smart woman if its true. Anyone who thinks the next government is going to be popular is kidding themselves. They will have to take tough decisions and she knows it. Might just feel its time to get out rather than face the abuse when trying to sort out someone elses mess.

And if as another poster said she has had personal problems she might feel she deserves a bit of Liz time.

Don't know for sure but doubt it. Weren't both Eamon and Liz, part of the original "Stickie" crew in their day?

Indeed, and then there's the speculation Nicky Kelly is about to join Sinn Fein

It looks like the Labour party in Wicklow are facing difficult times, hard to see them taking 2 seats in Wicklow now. Who do you think will benefit?

Shocked (well not so shocked I suppose) and saddened, have known the McManus's for a long time.. Irish public affairs will be worse off without Liz.. she is the real deal.

Cock Roche and his cronies will be toasting her departure down in Esplanade tonight.

She will be a great loss and was a forensic type. I recall her taking mr. clean Michael Martin apart on the nursing home scandals which cost us billions (before Anglo) This was the man who was handed the brief but had not time to read it. Liz just asked him if he thought he had any responsibility in the matter, and he replied "not really". Some reply, some minister, and of course he survived in Bertieland.
