Less than 1,000 atheists in Ireland

According to the census figures there are only 929 atheists in the State. Yet we hear calls all the time for the religious ethos of schools, hospitals etc. to be removed so as not to offent atheists!

Presumably not from atheists, though, unless they don't do anything else with their time...

Where is the link to this ? Bad & all as the CSO are I tend to doubt that they claim that there exists a mere 929 atheists in Ireland.

Do we? Could you cite, say, three cases from the past week? Or year?

I note that the census also says that about 2m people speak Irish, but I haven't come across many of them. Is there anyone out there who knows as many Irish speakers as English speakers?

I think I know most of them. Of course it can often be down to the person who fills out the Census form who may write down "Roman Catholic" simply because that's his or her own religion or the one they were brought up with.
