CPSU Branch Reps call for Recommendation of rejection of Croke Park Sell Out...

I've been informed that at a Branch Rep meeting in CPSU HQ yesterday evening there was a unanimous call from Reps, who represent members on the ground, for the National Executive, who meet on Monday, to recommend a rejection of this 'deal'.

This puts even more pressure on Blair Horan and his closest confidantes to turn their back on the agreement. An agreement that Blair hailed as a 'Peace in out time' moment on leaving Croker last week.

The devil is in the detail of all negotiations and sometimes can be hidden in the rhetoric. However the self castration of the union movement as shown in the redeployment and pension documents was clear for everyone to see no matter how the ICTU cabal tried to sweep it under the carpet.

This must put the positions of union leaders and their competance to continue in their positions into serious question...

I hope you have cancelled your Union membership and are encouraging others to do the same.

Why would you do something crazy like that ? That's what the honourable greens did and the lunatics took over the asylum and look where we are now. Unions are democratic organisations, take back control.

A generation of Union bosses must be consigned to the scrapheap. They are the leaders who have grown lazy during the days of national agrerements, and who have fallen in love with their seats on the boards of quangos. They have forgotten that their job - their only job - is to attend to the needs of their members, to secure the best possible terms and conditions of employment (mainly pay and security of employment) for their members. The future of trades union leadership belongs to the likes of Brendan Ogle who recently wrote the following for the Tribune:

"Social partnership too must fail and be consigned to the scrapheap, at least for now. Why? Because unions which now call workers to arms have for over 20 years sat side by side with the very worst elements of Irish society, those who have facilitated this mess. They have played the consensus game to such an extent that class politics in this country is currently on life support, yet now we have this charade of a trade-union movement which has long since stopped fighting threatening revolt. There are exceptions. Liam Doran of the INO has a proven track record of fighting for members. Eamon Devoy of the TEEU won a vital battle recently against the race to the bottom in the electrical contracting industry. However, many leaders are on six-figure salaries yet are not known to the bulk of their own members. They sit waiting for phone calls from the Department of the Taoiseach to attend pathetically choreographed discussions with a government which has treated them with utter contempt in favour of the bankers and developers."

Why we need a national strike. And why it won't happen

The Membership IS the union, the biggest treat to the leadership is the membership, it is only by the rank and file and grass root members that you can steer this issue to your advantage, stick together, and remember the old saying, never mind the begrudgers, which is about 98 per cent of users on this site.

Best of luck to our Public Service Brothers.

Spot on and thank you for the support. ICTU lovies know these are unprecedented times and are struggling to keep up with the pace of this membership uprising.

I've never heeded the begrudgers as I'm not in this to gain 'popular support' Rather to protect my terms and Conditions of employment...

I'm for pay cuts and reform in the public sector but I think now serious strikes are the only way to get rid of this government.

So come on, less pussy footing around with work to rule and strike!

First it was Unions vs. government,
after the deal it's union vs. other union
and now it's union vs the same union!

There seems to be so much infighting now that the unions will lose any public support they had and they'll lose focus of their fight against the government. Teachers, for example will probably strike in September. The students and teachers are going to think it's daft to strike over cuts made 9 months previous!!!

The similarities with the civil war are huge.
