Ireland ranks 16th for Gender Equality

The Word Economic Forum has ranked 58 countries in areas pertaining to gender equality.

You can read the report here.

Ireland ranked 16th, just above the US.

Seeing as Ireland's nearest neighbour, the UK, ranked 8th, what can Ireland do to encourage greater access, participation and equality for Irish women?

    Other comments/observations?

    Send them to Britain?

Seriously, I'll try to read some of this later and see what it makes of things. It's an important topic.

I dont think it is necessary for men and women to be coercively represented in all walks of life equally, from roles like child rearing to the jobs they pick and the educational choices they make. I don’t think there is any reason to try to peruse sameness and I think the gender disparity has been blown up to seem like some sort of injustice.

Gender equality in Norway for instance now requires a board of directors on a public company to have 40% women!*

Im surprised at high-tech japans score at 38, which was even lower then chinas (where explicit job discrimination is tolerated).
