Clearly you are not familiar with the Presidents role, responsibilities, and more importantly in what matters she is allowed to express an opinion.

Does it honestly matter to anyone what this person says? Honestly?

Is she relevant in any serious way?

As papers report to day Pope may call on Brady to resign. He is the head of the Church here, and she is our head of State. Surely she must have something to say, rather than useless things about hope and histroy rhyme. She was at Vatican for his Red Hat, and got a private audience with vthe Pope. Saying no one is above the law is ok, what else could she say ? But she must address the unfolding crisis. Its not good enough.

AS the situation gets worse dasy by day, it would have a claming effect, and give some consolation to victims, if she came out of her ivory tower and spoke up. In fact the Gov would be glad to see her do so, it would be a distraction from economic woes.
You'd think Kenny committed Treason and brought in IMF. Cowen had all in stitches in Galway at 3.30a.m.but he was "not impaired" -DD Power. FF=Publican páirtí an IMF.

She must come out now and defend the unfolding crisis with Anglo etc, rather than donning the FF jersey as of old, and telling us all will be well. And as Kevin Myers says, who is she to say we welcome Turkey into EU. The President's wife there has to wear the veil, something Ataturk banned in his time. And as for their civil rights and attitude to Armenian massacre, ouch. Come off it Mary.

Why has the President sided with the political class?

It reads like the President has made a very political choice - to focus criticism on the business and banking interests, and to say nothing about the failure of politics in our country.

    Why?

"The vicious cycle of irresponsible risk-taking in the world of banking and entrepreneurship, underpinned as it has been by a breakdown not simply in economics but in ethics, has had devastating economic and psychological consequences locally and globally.

"People are rightly indignant at how vulnerable they have been made by individuals and institutions that showed a phenomenal lack of sensitivity to the broad based social impact of their follies. Now people are spending averse and lacking in trust in the judgment of others whose credibility they once regarded highly.

The elite simply doesnt care or show any interest in the plight of the vast majority. They are not the ones suffering
