The actual lack of substance is your post!

You totally ignore the unique, worldwide publicity St Patrick's day gives this small country.

Were you present when An Taoiseach and the US President had their private discussions?

Obama even dies his champagne green.

You should listen to my bias, not the other side’s bias.

Most people couldn't even point Ireland out on a globe, we are less than 1% of the population of the EU, not to even mention Europe or the world. Economically and politically we are insignificant, any moral influence we might have had was given away with Lisbon 2. It's about time we got over this inferiority complex that makes us ask every politician/author/actor etc to describe their Irish roots.

But the president meets the taoiseach not for the sake of Ireland but for the sake of the Irish-American vote. As for the other countries their leaders can talk to POTUS by simply picking up the phone, the UK is still a significant ally.

I agree with you. The whole Mick Paddys day kitsch is beyond embarassing at this point. We are insignificant and our population is tinchy but Ireland's been significant enough that Ireland has been used as a conduit for plenty of US and British monies to be pass through here to avoid tax.

Ireland attracted more Foreign Direct Investment ( FDI) per capita than any other country beating China, Russia, Brazil and India for total US FDI between 2000 & 2006. They recd $73billion between them, Ireland received $83billion. Not bad for a small country of 4m people.

And we've feck all to show for it because of retarded tax breaks and an unwillingness to tax wealth.
