I wish Gabriel Byrne the best.
I'm sure many will criticise our cynicism, but in fairness, it is well founded.
Nothing to do with Gabriel mind you, just the puppetmasters (surely muppetmasters ?).

The "Cultural Ambassador" thingy, as well as the luvvie-heavy guest list at the White House party---Garry Hynes etc---(great woman, BTW) leads one to believe that Ireland is being repositioned, or is positioning itself, back in its "artistic" box
For a while there we were cutting edge entrepreneurs, the envy of the free world etc. Now we have returned to our default stereotype: not much use at the oul' maths, or at handling money, but, God, we're poets and artists and wordsmiths and Nobel winners for dark, ruminative novels. Great imagination (i.e. not to be trusted to tell the truth) and great craic, the entertainers of the world..... "Culture" is our thing...
Is Michelle Obama in charge of the Patrick's Night guest list? Is she doing a Jackie Kennedy i.e. showcasing "The Arts" in the White House, having a "cultural" as opposed to a "business" emphasis.....?
Anyway, it's great we are successful at something, and getting recognition for it.......
I wish him all the best ..the country needs all the help it can get. Doing this does
not mean he has joined the zanuFF.
Personally always felt he was a bit over rated as an actor but he has been commercially and artisitically successful so what do i know .......
