Pay less, get less. What did you think was going to happen?
Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

I thought it odd that the entire public sector did not just reduce their working week by the same proportion as their pay cuts.

It is generally illegal to reduce someone's wages without their consent, how have the governement been able to get away with this, when there are so many other options? (eg not guaranteeing anglo debts, redundancy in the public service, privitisiation of some services, property/poll taxes, more sin taxes, closing tax loopholes, reducing subsidy to private sector pensions, merging social welafare benefits into a lower basic income).

In this case, can public decide which services should be spared and which can be cut without affecting country?
What is the reason to pay fortune to managers and senior civil servants in departments, which ordinary Joe even doesn’t know that they exists?

So you want the cuts reversed then?

No, but you can vote for representatives who decide such things.

"Known to ordinary Joe" isn't a criterion for deciding who gets paid what.

Labour costs per hour for public administration in Ireland are over 7% below the EU-15 average. But never mind that, let's vent spleen anyway. Graah! Raargh!
