They came to regret it. As President, Putin was not universally against the oligarchs. But if an oligarch ws politically objectionable, Putin and his large army of supporters moved against them. For all their wealth and connections, they were easy meat. The average Russian despised them, and that emboldened Putin.

Even in a system as barely-democratic as Russia, public unpopularity played a large role in the reigning-in of the oligarchs - one of the most important phenomena of modern Russian politics, even world politics.

With all that in mind, and knowing what we do about Irish property developers, their political connections and the vast potential cost to the public of their activities, I'd say the lifestyle of people like Johnny Ronan could turn out to be seen as a very political matter - even if, for now, it's the non-political tabloids paying most attention.

    Right so.

And when you're off on this thread, defending the property rights of Sean FitzPatrick and his family, you're not pushing any agenda at all, are ya?

We all have agendas; some of us are more honest about them, and better at explaining them.

But seriously, did think it was of interest when one of the drivers of a significant irish company, steps aside due to coverage of his personal life.

    I'll bow to your decision!!

It is relevant in a sense... that dawned on me during the week when a good friend of mine, who is a serious FF supporter... and I mean no-one but FF ... turned to me and said he agreed with Joan Burton's go at Johnny Ronan and the coverage his sojourn with Rosanna Davison got last weekend.

Treasury are having millions of toxic loans stuffed into NAMA while Johnny swans off on these mid life crisises ? .. I'd imagine someone on high had a word in his ear about it

How gullible does he really think we are? Stepping aside because his picture appeared in a the newspapers with a couple of hotties. All a load of B.S., in fact the cynic in me suggests the whole thing was contrived in order to give him an excuse to go before he was pushed.
