Cathal Crowe wants to rename University of Limerick

Remember Clr Cathal Crowe. He runs the one man Willie O'Dea fan club.

Here is his latest wheeze............ "Cllr Cathal Crowe, a graduate of UL, tabled a motion at Clare Council Council this Monday night to have the campus renamed as the University of Limerick and Clare.

The motion received the full backing of the council, Cllr Crowe said, and a letter is now being written for the university's governing authority, its highest decision making body, urging that due consideration be given to renaming the university."

Right on Cathal, thats surely the single biggest issue facing the Mid West right now.

You may remember Cathal Crowe from appearances such as:

"A PROMINENT Fianna Fail councillor has been caught red handed on CCTV taking a newspaper cutting from the front door of a local shop, without permission from the owner"

Shop owner captures local councillor - Limerick Leader

    and

"cllr cathal crowe bills us E13000."

The good citizens of Limerick won't be having any of this - they spent long enough, foolishly in my view, looking for their very own Uni.

No kidding, but that's what honestly thought when I started reading the thread. I now realise that absolutely nothing surprises me about this nation anymore.

You care what it is called? I went there and it is a great university but don't give a damn what it is called.

I agree - I have a few nephews n nieces who have been thro there - my perspective is that UL has particular strengths which distinguish it from the traditional university model, particularly in the areas of business and technology, and I think these are better "branded" under the tag Technology Institute - I always felt they should have lined themselves up with the likes of MIT or Caltech, rather than just going blindly after University status.
