Well I for one am relieved that property developers can continue to be role models for Irish society despite the fact that they have had to bring their loans to NAMA.

Bottom line EC is that for such an obvious FFer such as yourself to post a thread such as this, you were always going to get nothing but scorn and accusations of trolling thrown back at you in return. This is a debate that you can't possibly win in the present climate because even if you are right, the anti-FF and anti developer sentiment is so high in Ireland and on this site in particular that you will only get shouted down and called a troll.

Actually, I'm an expert on the topic. And either you're a troll or an idiot if you think that gombeens linked to your party who got rich off the backs of young people who mortgaged themselves to the hilt to afford houses 2 hours commute from their place of work, gombeens who even got a special rate of tax for themselves courtesy of your party, gombeens who are now been bailed out by me and you, deserve anything other than derision.

You know, if I had wrecked the country as much as Johnny Ronan and the rest of that shower have, I might just think I would be ashamed enough to hide my ostentatiousness and not be getting in the paper for jetting off on holidays(*) with ex-Miss World or getting in slagging matches with models on the streets of Ranelagh.

(*)It's great considering how much he owes the banks that he can still afford his treats, eh?

Either stay on topic or don't feed the troll. If you're not going to get into the subject of the thread, don't post.

Especially Supermanpolitician.
Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

Not sure we should really let this descend into personalised stories... but the thought of a multimillionaire developer in his mid to late 50s having public fights with girls in their 20s is nothing short of bizarre.

I take your point just4ever but in fairness I think that no matter what a FFer posts he/she will be called a troll y the usual suspects but I can take it and I only feel sorry for them as they are letting themselves down and the decent FG posters here on P.ie, they are just abusers and known abusers but you cannot give in to bullies.

I started this thread because I know some good honest decent developers who have done some good for our cities and towns and that should be recognised.

I think we should look at the positives and maybe if we dine that we could move forward and discuss the positives achieved by some developers.

Names of top 10 borrowers in first wave of Nama transfers revealed - The Irish Times - Thu, Feb 18, 2010

The Irish Times has established the identities of the top borrowers being moved in the first wave of transfers to the State agency.

They are developers Liam Carroll; Bernard McNamara; Sean Mulryan of Ballymore; financier Derek Quinlan; Paddy McKillen, owner of the Jervis Street Shopping Centre; Treasury Holdings, which is owned by Johnny Ronan and Richard Barrett; Cork developer Michael O’Flynn; Joe O’Reilly, the developer behind the Dundrum Shopping Centre in Dublin; Dublin builder Gerry Gannon, co-owner of the K Club golf resort in Co Kildare; and Galway businessman Gerry Barrett, owner of Ashford Castle in Co Mayo and G Hotel in Galway.

Yes, indeed. He's obviously very stressed and contrite about the whole situation, eh? One of those great lads that Eurocitizan admires.

They hardly took any risks.

When you basically own the governing party and have the power to instruct that party on industry-related policy once a year in a tent in return for donations supporting the democratic process, there is no risk.
And even when it all goes tits-up, the same governing party think up a wheeze to get the ordinary Joe to bail out the property developers in an act of grand larceny never before seen on this island.

Where's the risk??
Nice one - couldn't've put it better myself. Even leaving the bailout out of it, those guys were no more taking risks than the shower in the Dail who were egging them on.
