Those types of polls I would draw no attention to. The majority of the electorate barely know what a National All Party Government Would mean. In terms of polls I like to use this clip to explain who insignificant they are.

So I am not in the least bit surprised that the Irish electorate endorse something as entirely unworkable as a national government.

Its a bit like asking people should all kids be educated together - of course they should - until they realise that it means that their little Johnny has to sit in a class with mostly immigrant kids, then they get religion.
A national govt. is an excuse to keep FF in power and that is very attractive to all the vested interests, especially O'Reilly.

The Sindo have been banging this drum for over a year now. It's nonsense. If we didn't have such a government during the Second World War or the Troubles, we don't need one now. What we need is a new government. Now, if only we knew where to find a half-decent one....

I agree wholeheartedly. A national unity government is just another term for dictatorship. Fianna Fail know they are lost at the next election so are desperate to find some way of clinging on to power so here is their PR Department aka The Sunday Indpendent desperately spinning for some way of achieving it. The question is why so desperate this time round? Personally I believe they are terrified of what other parties will discover about what has been going on behind the scenes.

I have always felt this is the way to go, too small a country for anything otherwise.

Indeed, at times of crisis, this is the way to go. Look at the progress Germany made under such a government.
