The story reported on RTE today at 5 describes the attitude of local authority workers when a victim lies critically injured in a car crushed by a tree.
They dont do chainsaws after 5.00pm-you could not make it up.

    Welcome to post Lisbon Ireland.

Better get used to this type of 5 day ,9 to 5pm emergency cover by critical services.

I hope the man involved sues Wicklow Co Co for attempted manslaughter.

This is on a par with the inactions of Eamonn Lillis when he left his dying wife.

I don't see a trade union bashing angle here, it's a management decision.

OK I take it back, but my experience is whenever you get someone objecting to working, it usually has something to do with a union.

I'd like to see the specific regulation before I rush to judgement, it could perhaps just as easily arise from a restriction in the councils employer's liability policy. I'm not sure that I'd necessarily expect a guy who works a chainsaw to be up to speed on this.

Or are we looking at council workers "Work to rule"?

Eitherway its disgusting and I hope he does sue them.

Thankfully he lived, but can you imagine if he hadnt because of the lack of a chainsaw operator who refused to aid an emergency call.

    I'd say you're right there.

Mind you, the people with the chainsaws must be proper little wimps if they risk a person's life rather than risk getting a bollocking from some jobsworth "manager".

I would think this is to do with insurance. Because LA's are so tight for cash they probably have daft clauses in their policies like this one.
