Or we could wait until we know the whole story and not go nuclear because of a few paragraphs in some local rag.

"Health and Safety" is one of those bogeyman, can't be argued against, excuses people use when they don't have a real reason.

If it's safe and healthy to do it up to 5pm then it's safe and healthy after 5pm. If it's insurance that's another matter but still a pretty feeble excuse in the circumstances

Whoever implemented a rule like this should just be fired for incompetence. Whether it was the fire departments, union guy, union chief, worker or manager. It's a rule that the consequences should have been clear - if anybody had been thinking of what the job of a resuce worker entails.

What next, no ladders after 6? No firehouses in the summer? Yet again, they'll be no one held accountable despite a man nearly losing his life because of incompetence.

Does Enda have his "Safe Pass" and correct training and insurance.
But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

Health and Safety! An industry created for the insurance industry by legislating for thicko's and their accidents. I dont know which is worse, Health and Safety or Political correctness.

We need legislation to roll back all this lunacy immediately. It is no longer just a joke. It is serious.

H&S legislations and its enforcement for everyday tasks are completely disproportionate to the true level of risk and hazard. H&S legislation will strangle this country to death.

The principal drivers of this lunacy are supine membership of the EU and trade union influence.

The cultural primacy of regulations is a distinctly continental phenomena.

People are fined in Berlin if they cross the road against the lights even when there are no cars on the road.

This excessive respect for silly regulations created the fertile ground wherein Hitler and his goons seized control of an entire population.

The EU wishes to grind down all individual rejection of its despotic culture.

The EU reaction to Lisbon 1 proved this

The deep animus displayed by the EU against all expressions of nationalistic individuality is self evident.

Regulations by the thousand are part of the EUs mission to subdue and destroy both individual & national liberty of decision and action.

    + 1

And so i hope would any decent human being.

And WTF is up with requiring special training to use a chainsaw to cut a branch from a fallen tree ?

I own (and regularly use) two chainsaws and never got special training. I have used them on more than one occasion to clear roads that have been blocked by fallen trees or large branches.

If the requirement was to cut down a large tree so it wouldn't fall on a building \ person then fine but to remove a few branches ?
