A call was placed asking for assistance from Wicklow County Council staff, but under Health and Safety regulations, they aren't allowed to operate a chainsaw after 5 p.m.
Personally if it was me that got the call... I'd say f*** the regulations... then I guess I've a different outlook on life

Not a different outlook on life, just a decent human being.

I would like to think that if I was in the situation as described and had been trained to use a chainsaw before 5.00pm as it were as that I would have ignored the 5.00pm rule and used a bit of common sense! A life was at stake after all!
I REALLY HOPE THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH UNIONS!

One wonders about the mentality of the individual worker who said "i'm not allowed" while a person lay trapped in a car.
Hoping this story is a bit of glossed up fiction, if not, well let's hope he never has a accident after 5.
But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

The report clearly mentions health and safety regulations restrictions - maybe one of our resident "legal eagles" could clarify this for us? It is ridiculous, though! There should at least be a proviso for exceptional cases.

Health and Safety Regulations consist of guidelines - not rules.
Either the person saying this knew this and is lying - or did not know it and needs to be reeducated.
I'd guess it's some form of work to rule.

Don't you understand, it's always the fault of a trade union or a PS worker or (best of all) a PS worker who's a member of a trade union. It was probably a unionised clerical officer who pushed the tree onto the car in the first place.

You do know there is no offence of attempted manslaughter? Indeed there can't by definition be an offence of attempted manslaughter.

The govt should make an exemption in this case and introduce one of legislation to punish Wicklow Co Co
