However the point still stands - what are the implicatons for FF if they don't have a very good poll next time.

It being an 'open goal' and all that.
None. Unlike FG, FF march to the sound of their own drum. FF are the Government, not the voters alternative to FG, whatever progress they make in the polls will be on the basis of what they do or don't do themselves, they are not judged on whether FG continue to make a balls of themselves.
    no pasaran!

It is not an open goal, but a spectacular own goal for Fine Gael.
I will ignore the clown comment.

What are the implications for FF, if they do not have a very good poll? Nothing. There is a snowballs' chance in hell of FF having a good poll, let alone a very good poll. This is the worst government in the history of State only matched by the inability of the main opposition party to capitalise on it. Your party is brutal, amateurish and make the Greens look under-21 hurlers. If you don't think so, ask George.

Please don't ignore the clown comment.

Please take it on board, and make some positive change.

    I implore you.

Well with Kenny being endorsed ... it's all down to the next poll now to see the fallout

FG got a 6 point bounce when they announced Lee... so I reckon some downward ticking is likely

Surge in support for Fine Gael as Coalition hits record low - The Irish Times - Fri, May 15, 2009
The surge in Fine Gael support to 38 per cent has coincided with the unveiling of the former RTÉ economics editor George Lee as the party candidate in the Dublin South byelection.

Though I wonder where those that "defect" from FG will go to ?

The Don't Knows (the floating vote) was supposed to be around 20% in some of the previous polls. That floating vote is critical now to whichever party or parties will form the next government. FG needs to get a large section of that vote. If people lose confidence in the ability of FG under Kenny to resolve matters, then a conservative element may consider FF to be the best of a bad lot in that at least it has some kind of plan to get out of the mess it caused.

FG needed a snap election towards the end of last year when the tide was in, they missed that boat.... the general public as like George Lee can now see through them and will turn elsewhere,. I think FF will gain along with LAB in the next poll by 2-5%. Dropping FG down to about 29-30%, FF Up to 30-31% and LAB 19-20%.

Enda will be under pressure but he will hang on ......
