Actually, the bare fact that FG are willing to try something novel already makes then superior to the ar5e-coverers extraordinaire in FF who wouldn't f4rt without several subcommittees, solicitors, accountants and PR agencies to blame it on first.
But FG are still cr4p. There is only 1 chance for positive change in this broken nation and that is for everybody to join Fianna Fail

We are still probably two years until an election, so if Fine Gael do drop and I'd say they will, there is plenty of time to build it back up, although FG will have to stop shooting itself in the foot. The only good thing about this whole fiasco for Fine Gael is it didn't happened near an election. That's obviously not to say it is a good thing.

Although I guess it's possible that Cowen might believe with Fine Gael in crisis, this is a good time for an election, which would make things very interesting.

Ain't that the truth. I suspect he won't, given the Finance Bill has another 4-6 weeks to run through, but it certainly occurred to me. However, even with FG in disarray, a FG/LP coalition would be elected, and so while he'd probably win as many seats as reasonably possible in the medium term, he'd have to persuade the party it was the right decision if/when he lost.

From a Fine Gael prospective I think it might actually be a good thing.

There is a good chance that Fine Gael might kill itself with infighting in the next few weeks, we can be that stupid. However a general election would force the party to unite and end all thoughts of changing leader. Also in a general election this would quickly fall off the agenda and the real issues economy etc. would quickly remerge, that might not happen in peacetime. However I don't see FF calling an electon anyway.

FG's lead over FF from 13 points slips to 6 (recent SBP poll); what now after George?

I think FF will rise further in the polls with an equal but opposite dip for FG.

What would happen to FG internally if FF were to climb ahead of FG ?

Another paper cut for Kenny, and it's death by a thousand paper cuts for him at the moment.
If Kenny steps down, then the absence of talent in the party will become even more apparent, as a shower of nonentities jostle for top position on the mud heap.

There are no major policy differences between FF and FG.....If they both begin to slip in popularity they would amalgamate to stop real political progress....

normal service has resumed. Fianna fail to go top again. Do not forget ff + fg + pd = 70% plus. It is just rearranging the deckchairs.

Two polls in our favour plus this mud-in-Enda's-eye from G. Lee, i reckon, could herald a shift in our fortunes.

Morale has been low with supporters leaving .. but this could bring a few back.
