Muslim Asylum Seeker asks High Court to let in second wife

Hmm muslims can't afford polygamy in Ireland cos of the recession apparently(see below) but want the state to support wives under asylum legislation.

According to Egan, the Koran says that Muslims can marry up to four women but only if they can provide financial support and “love each of them equally”. He said there are polygamous marriages in Ireland “but it is rare enough because of the recession”.

A muslim is taking a landmark High Court case demanding that the Irish state recognise his polygamous marriage.

The man is from Lebanon, where polygamy is permitted. He is married to two women and has been granted Irish citizenship.

Seven years ago the Department of Justice refused to grant the man’s first wife a visa. The Lebanese entered Ireland with his second wife and claimed asylum. His first wife did not arrive until much later. The man has children with both women.

After its decision was challenged, the justice department agreed to quash its refusal to issue a visa to the first wife. But as part of this settlement the man is required to ask the High Court to rule on the validity of his marriage under section 29 of the 1995 Family Law Act.

The state and the wives are all represented in the case. The residency rights of both spouses will depend on the decision. A number of similar cases are awaiting the outcome

Great! Multicult nirvana! Yet more evidence we are soooo.. modern and sophisticated. Stand up Denise Charlton and the rest of that Immigration Council of Ireland, Siobhan O'Donoghue of Migrant Rights Centre plus of course their cheerleaders in the media and big business and take a bow for bringing us to this. Let's not forget too the amoral lawyers who facilitate this and our idiot politicians who cower in the face of the PC brigade.

Who knows, if we are reallllly successful, next stop an Irish Islamic Republic and part of the Ummah. Then Mr Egan or whatever his name is can take a bow.

Who is paying for this litigation with all parties represented? Who really profits from all of this endless pursuit of rights for the foreign 'oppressed' stuff - Irish society and the Irish taxpayer or a select elite?

Let us compare the salaries at the Immigration Council of Ireland with those of unemployed Irish workers and who merits Irish taxpayers money more?

Oh, and by the way, do the Women's Council of Ireland support this?

If he is Lebanese national, he has no case whatsoever. Lebanon is a multi-faith, multi-ethnic society, the only democracy in the middle east, with a participant style of power-sharing government, and a much-travelled business and ex-pat community.
The message should be; 'Thanks for bringing this case. It reminds us that your time sheltering in our country is now up.Slan abhaile.'

The Times says he came 7 years ago. He must have got asylum seeker status approved, then applied for and got citizenship on grounds of 5 years residency.

As an earlier poster says how could he have passed the asylum seeker process given he comes from the Lebanon?

He has children by both 'wives' - is he keeping them or is the taxpayer?

Is there anyway asylum seeker status approval can be overturned. Just as there seems to be endless ways the asylum seeker can appeal and stay in the country, is there any appeal the other way (like the DPP can appeal a too lenient sentence) to protect the public from these scammers.

Yes, and while we're at it we should ban non-medically required circumcision.
