    Cowen not budging.

TAOISEACH Brian Cowen has ruled out any further action on the Ombudsman’s report on the controversial “Lost at Sea” scheme and insisted that “it is a matter for the Oireachtas to order its business”.

There were heated exchanges in the Dáil again in the wake of Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly’s comments that the Dáil and Seanad had been sidelined and were no longer in a position to hold the Government to account.
However the Taoiseach said the Ombudsman had invited the Oireachtas to consider the report and “take whatever action they deem appropriate. It is a matter for the Oireachtas to order its business. The Dáil and Seanad have dealt with the Ombudsman’s report by way of statements.”

During sharp exchanges, Fine Gael chief whip Paul Kehoe repeatedly asked the Taoiseach: “What have you got to hide?”

Mr Cowen retorted: “You probably haven’t even read the report, you clown.”

I sincerely hope there's still mileage in this one.

It is written like a football manager compelled to give out some drivel to the Press.

Things must have been real bad with this scheme if Bertie dropped Fahy because of it, reads like a solo run gone wrong but surely the civil servant mandarins should have stood it up.

Wouldn't it be nice if it turned out that a few throwaway lines in Bertie's biography were the catalyst that finally sank him (without lost at sea compo)?

Amazing. Frank Fahey was moved, not because he might have done anything wrong, but because he'd caused some 'difficulty' for the party - i.e. his 'wrong' had been cuaght. Just goes to show how morally bankrupt Berties 'won it on the nags' Ahern was. Party before people.

And I wouldn't buy that book if my life depended on it!

FG/Labour should not let this go. Disrupt the house. Walk out. Do whatever is necessary, but the contempt of FF for the Ombudsman is disgraceful. Their attempting to bury the report from the people, just like they attempted to say wee WIllie lying in an affadavid was ok. Disgusting stuff.

In the last few days of his ministership, Fahey issued a big number of Muscel Farm licenses to buddies in Killary Harbour in Connemara. These farms are an eyesore and have destroyed the incomes of the original farms. The original farms were set up by genuine entrepeneurs, and thier harvest tonnage has been reduced to a about a quarter of what it was befroe the vast intensification of muscel farms in Killary.

I would interested in hearing more on this from anyone with information on it. This is as big a scam as the Lost at Sea scam and needs to be aired.

Actually it's interesting because it shows the complete absence of a certain type of moral faculty - like the admission to Dobson that he put people on public boards not because they gave him money (the horror!) but because they were his friends.

Bertie genuinely (and I know you must always be careful using words like that about Bert) sees nothing wrong with things like this.

Mind you, given the company he kept, that shouldn't be surprising.
