I can only repeat what others have said about this national monument of a man.

Ireland is poor for his passing.

Like others I never shared his extreme views but he was a rare quality in that he was a sincere politician

I did not share his politics, and would have disagreed with him on most issues. But he was an honest man of the highest integrity who passionately believed in what he stood for. Ireland will indeed be all the poorer for his passing.

While I didn't know him personally he always struck me as an honest, decent man. RIP Tomás.

His support for the mass-murdering Communist dictatorships is a serious black mark on his record but he did at least abandon his support for terrorism. RIP

I recall that he lost the last seat in Dublin West in 1992 by 55 votes to one Liam Lawlor.. a reflection perhaps of where we went wrong as a country.

Should anyone be interested, I just posted a Workers Party Newspaper from the 1994 European elections where Tomas MacGiolla was the candidate.
One of the main things that struck me from it, is how proud he was to be Lord Mayor of Dublin.

R.I.P. No one could doubt his honesty and sincerity. Glad that he had the honour of becoming Lord Mayor of Dublin. It meant an awful lot to him.
