Rosanna Flynn at it again..Asylum seeker sews lips

Rosanna Flynn has been on Newstalk this morning waffling about the case of an Iranian Asylum seeker. This man has failed in his initial application, rather than wait for the result of his appeal he has sewn his lips together. Now she is trying her old tactics of using the media to try and force the department's hand. Hasn't Rosanna Flynn learned anything from the Afghan shenanigans?

The DoJ should supply her with a needle & thread to do the same to herself.

<Mod>I've edited the title of the thread to correct the ridiculous misspelling. No, no; no need to thank me...</Mod>

I wonder is the Iranian guy in a rush for food?!

Seriously though, the problem with the whole asylum issue is that a debate has never occured. Most people have one of two views on it: 1) That they are all spongers / chancers and should be booted out and 2) That they are all angels and should be allowed stay. The truth, of course, is somewhere in the middle, but I think that people are afraid to debate the issue for fear of being dubbed either a racist or an 'immigrant lover' or some other foolish tag.

You are absolutely right, and herein lies the whole problem of economic migrancy and multiculturalism, An intelligent debate is just not possible. The Kneejerk reactions by the Social Democratic left to any reaction to Immigration kills the whole process of debate and informed opinion.A person tries to talk about it, he-she is automatically branded, neo-nazi, fascist, racist etc.

Aye. It's a definite problem when debate is stifled in this way. I have respect for all creeds, cultures, and races, but I'm aware enough to realise
that human kind is the same the world over - you get chancers, spongers and decent people in every society and walk of life, and those seeking asylum are no different - it is evident that some are touchers, but, I think, most are decent.

Really? I've heard people express the first view, but the second view seems to be based on a repeated misinterpretation by "anti-immigrationists".

Of course the second view exists. There is a world outside of UCD you know. There are 'right on' people who don't question the fact that some asylum seekers / immigrants are chancers, and if one suggests otherwise one is labelled a "R*****".
