the Minister is provocative, l am sure he has made some nice new friends BUT he has made us a laughing stock in justice terms : filthy prisons, gender inequality, no child protection laws BUT "Lets criminalise for BLASPHEMY "!

Agree Garland names the Planets.
And those so ready to condemn blasphemy laws ,will they be ready to condemn the 'blasphemy laws 'of certain minority groups who would 'gag' us ? [on this site]. I do not think so, being as they are in the same camp .
The rebels are intolerant of all that is not theirs. Hypocrites ,all.
A belief in an omnipotent deity and what do we think? God does not have a sense of humour! The platypii
were around long before humanity.

Madam of the IT evidently saw the hubbub in the international media and took very late remedial action.
No sign of similar wisdom from RTÉ.
Or am I wrong?

It would not surprise me in the slightest if this new blasphemy law had been set up deliberately by Ahern in order to give these 'atheists' a platform and a bone to chew on - and so magnify their apparent importance. To many looking on both sides (Ahern with his blasphemy and these self-important 'atheists) look as foolish and embarrassing as each other.

Is he embarrassed even If he comes out of it looking like some kind of defender of Catholic values or traditions? We need to keep distance between ourselves and the whole God debate that has so ravaged American politics, we do not want such a highly polarised society where junk politics like this reigns and people vote based on emotion. The blasphemy law should be removed, indeed it should never have been instituted in the first place.
This is a new way we are being Americanised and Britishised, this whole Atheist campaign is a direct importation from London (think The Guardian). Everything they do we follow close behind, given the mess Britain is in with it's religious affairs that is not a comforting thought.
