If you don't want to look stupid then don't stupid things like introduce blasphemy laws or link to mpac.ie articles for anything other than entertainment purposes. Dermo was put on notice about this months ago. He didn't correct his mistake.

If AI really want to make a statement they should republish, in print form, the Mohammed cartoons which at the time of the initial controversy only appeared in one Irish newspaper, The Irish Daily Star. Putting a bunch of quotes on a web site is just an easy way to gain attention which is why it got picked up by the popular British press.

I think the stupidity is in refusing to acknowledge the harm that AI's campaign might result in. Granted mpac.ie's Nazi/Jew analogy is a bit off, they do make a valid point. For me their picture of laughing German policemen ridiculing a Jew summed up the danger.

I'm surprised an individual who appears so concerned about rights would so willingly side with a group who want to remove the rights of religious followers dot.

l am opposed to governmental interference in cultural expression, in debate and in the rights of individuals to self-expression Muzzy. The arts should be capable of evolution and the media of reportage. FF penetration into press freedom or art determination (Arts Act 2003) is abusive, messianic and censorious : Atheists campaign against blasphemy law - The Irish Times - Sat, Jan 02, 2010

My arse. Intellectual cowardice plain and simple. Islamic claims can fight their corner in the marketplace of ideas just as all other claims have to give or take their punches as they need too. And that can't be sacrificed on the altar of posing as some sniveling minority.

Congratulations to all involved in the campaign.

BBC News - Irish atheists challenge blasphemy law

I see RTÉ haven't covered it at all. No surprise there anyway.
I'm all for Freedom of Speech and Tolerance. The law on Blasphemy is not to be supported, neither is the action of Atheist.ie.

Would be better if our Society had more respect. Obviously we won't be looking to Atheist.ie to fulfil this requirement.

No because respect is gift to be earned not a right to be assumed. And it belongs to the individual to give or not to the person or idea as they see fit. If your ideas are not respectable to someone you've no right to their respect. Simple as that
