It seems, according to the Guardian, that the Irish atheist web site is now inaccessible. Can someone post a link to it?

Here's a link to the Guardian article and the comments on it.

It looks like the moderators are adopting a very heavy hand. One of my comments was removed because I said all religion was strictly for the birds.

How times have changed, though. The English used to call most of the shots in Ireland, but now a medieval Irish law has them running scared and is even influencing editorial policy at the venerable Grauniad.

Congratulations to atheist.ie for their international publicity success. I must admit that I hadn't realised they were a PR company; I had thought that international publicity success was a bit pointless for a national pressure group, but I've been enlightened.

Do atheists not believe in the presumption of innocence?

As for republishing them. Despicting Mo the Pederast in print was bad enough to begin with, but their quality was poor.

At least we profitted from it by having the Mammy of the Nation telling the Saudis how abhorred we were. Score. .

and congraulations to Ahern whose holy god stealth tax carries forward the noble FF tradition of cultural vandalism, eluding necessitious legislation ; and intimate closeness with rich religious lobbies. He will get his wee papal medal and plenary indulgences when it quiets down. *Bless*

If you don't understand how international publicity could be useful for a national pressure group, then you're short of ability in lateral thinking.

I heard the news item on Radio 4. Congratulations for making themselves into a laughing stock for the British masses. Paddies, eh?

@aggressy : this excerpt from Madden shows Ahern's political antecedents attacking Roualt (a french expressionist) on charges of *Blasphemy* and *incompetence* : Tapestry design. A celebration in his 90th year

Good point. For example, the Guardian reports that a Facebook group called "boycott Ireland" has been set up. We recently had the launch of the "Smart Economy" programme (complete with Mary Cockling's gaffe about Einstein's theory of evolution) and are trying to present ourselves to the world as a modern state, but now introduce rubbish and nasty medieval legislation like that. especially if someone is prosecuted under this silly legislation and challenges it all the way to the European Court of Human Rights, I can see a lot of those IDA people who are trying to sell Ireland getting a serious case of haemorrhoids; in other words, the same thing as the crooks and gangsters who have given us this legislation - a serious pain in the arse.

    Childish post of the day.

I know you don't like them, but can you not summon the grace to acknowledge that they're making a pretty good fist of making Ahern look stupid?

    No?

I suppose I should have expected that.

They are trying to make Ahern look stupid by making themselves look even more pathetic and stupid. Clever?

I detest the blasphemy law, as well as most of these ridiculous incitement to laws.

But making yourself into a laughing stock is self defeating.
