Pope's would-be assassin set to be freed on January 18

Mehmet Ali Agca, the Turk who attempted to kill pope John Paul II, is to be freed next month, after nearly three decades behind bars, his lawyer said on Monday.

Many see him as deranged - he claims to be a "second Messiah" - while others believe he is a sly operator playing the fool.

Its important to mention that he is not currently in prison for the attempted murder of the pope, but the actual murder of a person back in 1979.

That's true - but he'll be forever remembered for his attempted murder of a man of peace, and not for the brutal murder of Abdi İpekci.
